Today on Harmonic Radio, we're starting a new series of scene and community spotlights. For this first episode, we're featuring music by Berklee College of Music alumni. Harmonic's founding team includes a Berklee alumnus (Dan Servantes) and a Berklee professor (George Howard), and, as a result, we keep our ear to the ground on new music coming out of the college.
Whatever your opinions may be on the institution, there is no question that concentrating 4,000 talented and ambitious young musicians in three blocks of Boston's Back Bay neighborhood is going to result in a constant stream of music. We're excited to not only spotlight artists from this scene but also to support them by listing their music on Harmonic's marketplace. “Slide (Lawrence)” - Aydan Hill
Describing a life in constant motion but without a clear destination, “Slide (Lawrence)” is a soulful indie pop track where Aydan’s delicate vocals float over a bed of lush laidback pop production.
“BLAH BLAH BLAH” - Fia
Fia describes her “BLAH BLAH BLAH” as a “fun pop anthem for anyone that is tired of unsolicited opinions.” The world needs more fun pop anthems and a little less unsolicited opinions these days, and Fia’s track delivers on its promise.
“Susie” - Manu Xavier
Xavier’s “Susie” feels like a passing of the Blues Rock torch to the next generation and breathes new life into the genre. The track has everything - horns, a guitar solo, and (most importantly) Xavier’s incredible vocal range and control.
“If We Vibe” - Kina
This infectiously catchy pop R&B track from Kina captures the elation of finding connection. Come for the laid-back beat, and stay for the powerhouse vocals.
“Set Me Free “ - Stéfane
Stéfane seeks to set herself free from self-doubt in this track produced by fellow Berklee alum Gab De Soul. Scoring bonus points for musicianship and arrangement, “Set Me Free” is exactly the type of progressive pop song you would hope to come out of an insitution like Berklee.
“Traveling On” - Rae Isla
Rae Isla sings about the need to keep moving on - both metaphorically and geographically - in “Traveling On.” Dreamy and contemplative, Isla builds the energy throughout the song as if becoming more comfortable in her journey to a yet-to-be-determined destination.
“Memories” - Andy Prasa
Groovy with an edge, Andy Prasa’s “Memories” is a restless late-night reflection of a lost relationship. But don’t let the subject matter fool you, Prasa’s arrangement is upbeat with a ripping guitar solo, drum fills, and organ riffs.
